Who we are: Loupe is operated by OnlineJourno (“we”, “us”), founded by Subhash Rai. Registered address: #321, I Floor, 14th B Cross, 17th Main Road, Sector 4, HSR Layout, Bangalore 560102, Karnataka, India. Contact: hello@onlinejourno.com.

Loupe is a browser-based worktable for photojournalists. It is built privacy-first: your photos are processed on your device and are never uploaded to us.

1. The short version

• We never receive your photos. Opening, correcting, captioning, and saving all happen in your browser. Your image files never leave your machine, and neither does their embedded metadata — unless you use the optional AI caption help, which sends only the caption text fields described in section 5.
• Our analytics are anonymous and cookieless. We count visits and page views — never the photos themselves, their filenames, or their captions.
• We collect an email only if you sign in. Sign-in is optional and only needed to save/export or use paid features. We do not sell data, run ad networks, or embed third-party trackers.

2. What we do and don’t process

We do NOT process, receive, store, or transmit:

• Your photo files or their pixels.
• Embedded photo metadata (EXIF, IPTC, XMP) — caption, credit, byline, location, keywords, etc.
• Filenames.

All of the above stay on your device, except the caption text you choose to send to AI caption help (see below and section 5). Correction and metadata editing run locally in your browser.

If you use batch, the frames you add (the image files, their metadata and your selection) are stored in your browser’s storage (IndexedDB) on this device, so the shoot survives a page reload. They stay there until you remove them with the Clear control or clear your browser’s site data. They are never uploaded to us.

We DO process:

• Anonymous usage events (page visits and page views, counted by Cloudflare Web Analytics), whenever you use Loupe, to understand traffic and improve the product. Basis: legitimate interest / not personal data.
• Account email + minimal profile, only if you sign in, to provide save/export and paid features. Basis: contract / consent.
• Caption text fields (your draft caption, headline, subject, keywords, city and country), NOT images, only if you use AI caption help, to return a draft caption. Basis: contract / consent.
• Subscription details, only if you subscribe to a paid plan, to bill you and unlock the features you pay for (see section 4). Basis: contract.

3. Analytics detail

We use Cloudflare Web Analytics, a privacy-first, cookieless analytics service that does not fingerprint users or track them across sites. We measure aggregate traffic (visits and page views) and page-load performance. No image content, filename, caption, or metadata is ever included in any analytics event. We do not build user profiles, do not use advertising cookies, and do not sell or share analytics data.

In-app we state this plainly: “We count anonymous usage — never your photos.”

4. Accounts and sign-in

Sign-in is optional and handled by Auth0 as our authentication provider (processor). When you sign in we receive and store your email address and basic account identifiers to provide the service and to link your account to any paid plan. We do not receive your password. See Auth0’s privacy terms for how they process authentication data.

If you subscribe, you pay on Razorpay’s payment page; Razorpay processes the payment and we do not receive your card or bank details. Our accounts service keeps your account identifier, your plan, and which paid features it unlocks.

5. AI caption help

Optional AI caption help sends the caption text fields listed in section 2 (your draft caption, headline, subject, keywords, city and country) through our server to a third-party language-model provider, Anthropic (the company that makes the Claude models), to return a draft caption. It never sends your image. It is text-only. AI caption help is a paid feature you choose to use. Trend and keyword suggestions are planned and not yet offered.

6. Cookies

Free, unauthenticated use sets no tracking cookies. Analytics is cookieless. Signing in keeps a session token in your browser’s local storage, and Auth0 may set a cookie, strictly to keep you logged in; we also keep a note of which paid features your account has there. We use no advertising or cross-site cookies.

7. Sharing

We do not sell your personal data. We share data only with the processors named above (authentication, analytics, payments if you subscribe, and — if you use AI caption help — the language-model provider), each only to the extent needed to run the service, and with authorities where legally required.

8. Retention

Anonymous analytics are retained in aggregate. Account data is kept while your account is active and deleted within 30 days of account deletion, except where we must retain it by law.

9. Your rights

Depending on your location (including under India’s DPDP Act 2023 and the GDPR) you may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your account data, and may withdraw consent. Contact hello@onlinejourno.com. Because we never hold your photos, there is nothing image-related for us to disclose or delete.

10. Children

Loupe is a professional tool, not directed at children under 16.

11. Changes

We may update this policy; we will change the effective date and, for material changes, notify signed-in users.
